1. 研究目的与意义
Nowadays, an increasing number of people place equality above all of other things. We construct social relationships between each other mainly by conversation, eye-contact and body movement, etc. Among these concepts, conversation plays the most important role and has profound impact on social relationship. Therefore, I have great interests in the context in conversation. In the 2017 president election in America, Trump became president and came into power. Recently, he had a speech about undergoing-policy, which exerted immense discussion because people said he had great discrimination against immigrants, which attracted me most. Based on my research and some discussion with my friends, I came to realize it is a good topic for me to write a paper. That#8217;s why I chose this topic as my paper.This essay is based on the analysis of one of Trump#8217;s speech on immigration. According the analysis, we can know the manner of constructing an unequal relationship among listener and speaker in discourse. It is constructed by the use of transitivity, modality system, modal verb, personal pronoun and subjectivity, which should be thought highly of by people in daily conversation to avoid unessential conflicts and misunderstanding between listener and speaker. And we can also trigger some discrimination against something which is essential to us in essays or communication.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
This essay is based on the analysis of one of President Trump#8217;s speeches on immigration. 3. 国内外研究现状
This paper is used to study social problems through the way of CDA, which is applied to explore a new academic perspective of discourse study.It originated in the late 1970s and early 1980s in western Europe, which was based on the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is a method of analysis in discourse, which sprout up in the late-1970s and early-1980s. It is mainly used for public discourses and non-literature discourses. It emphasizes on analyzing production, transmission and reception of discourse under social and historical background. It aims to analyze relations among language and power. Its methodology is built on Halliday#8217;s systemic-functional linguistics. Halliday believed that there are three metalingual function: ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function, which is still used and advocated by many linguists. With the development for years, there are five schools established in CDA field, which respectively represented by Fairclough, Wodak, Van Dijk, Chilton and Scollon(Tian,2009).They employ their methods to analyze discourse aiming to encourage social change. Therefore, CDA aims to reveals inequalities and discrimination implied in discourse, which are obscure for discourse consumers. Besides, Chistopher Hart has studied Britain immigration discourse as well. He takes the theory of Force-Dynamics, a cognitive linguistic approach, to put up his analytical frame work. However, he aims to demonstrate the theory of Force-Dynamics is #8220;a further useful analytical framework for the Cognitive Linguistic approach to CDA#8221;(Hart,2011:269), rather than exploring social problems on immigrants. However, the five schools, in some ways, direct to other fields of linguistics.And in China, there is a linguist called, XinBin. He put forward how metaphysical function work in discourse in his works (辛斌,1996:36-40). And this essay will mainly adopt his view to analyze the text.
4. 计划与进度安排
This thesis will be divided into four parts, introduction, the Critical Discourse Analysis Theory, Critical Discourse Analysis Method and Text Analysis and conclusion.In the first part (introduction), I would introduce some background about this thesis: how it comes into being, the reason I choose this topic, etc. In the second part, I would focus the explanation of Critical Discourse Analysis and the development of the theory. Thirdly, it will focus on the way of constructing analysis and analyze how to avoid. Then I would use President Trump#8217;s speech to analyze how he constructs the discrimination. Finally, I would enumerate several ways to avoid amguilties and misunderstanding in context.
