With the rapid development of science andtechnology, the process of communication and the expression of opinions haveevolved, driven by the social media. This brings enormous pressure for thejournalists and the news media that convey messages to the public.
Different journals may have quite varyingtones and voice, depending on the target customers, corporate culture, thewriting styles of the journalist, and most importantly the language patternsthey applied. Wang[王丹], Sun[孙铭徽], Xia[夏榕], and Duan[段妍](2016) figured out the reports aboutcalamities from China Daily and BBC differed from each other illustrated morethan twenty related passages concerning Malaysia 370’s accident, Ebola virus, the Syria issue. China Daily tends to apply active voice, explaining clearlythe subjects and objects of the event, while BBC prefers passive voice toemphasize the objects and to some degree obscure the subjects, which indicatestheir ideologies. Meanwhile, when it comes to vocabular selection, thedivergence also exists.
During the process of critical discourseanalysis, the three-dimensional analysis of Fairclough is populous. Althoughtwo essays focused on different issues—Wang[王敏] and Shi [史晓媛] (2017) explored the resignation news aboutDavid Cameron, and Chen [陈周琴] (2014) studied the description of themissing plane of Malaysia Airlines—both of them opt for the same theory thatdivided any language into three aspects—Text, Discourse Practice, and SocialPractice. Chen [陈周琴] (2014) dug out the national presses arealways under the influence of government according to the national interests.
