1. 研究目的与意义

After the implementation of reform, dwellers began to have a strong desire for abundant spiritual pursuits and cultural needs. Film and television works tend to play a vital role in our daily life along with the scientific and technological advance. Meanwhile, with the output and input of audiovisual products, the national boundaries of media art are slowly fading out. On the one hand, it is an efficient method to assimilate the external culture. On the other hand, it can foster the promotion and inheritance of Chinese traditional culture. The significances of this research are follows.

Firstly, the research can testify the applicability of Skopos theory in subtitle translation. As a cross-cultural communication model, subtitle translation is of great significance not only for translation practice but also for transcultural communication. According to the cultural function of documentary, the subtitle translation of it holds great value. There are various translation strategies such as foreignizing strategy, domesticating strategy, Equivalence theory and Skopos theory. Among these strategies, the three principles of Skopostheorie, including skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, can implement the function of source text efficiently and comprehensively. Hence, the understanding of the target audience towards films and television works can be deepened.

Secondly, the research can add relevant studies on the subtitle translation of documentaries. The current TV programs tend to pay more attention to entertainment, and the fierce competition in the TV market has forced TV stations to focus more on catering to the tastes of the audience. For this reason, the documentary bears the responsibility of the most important artistic and social values in television art. In recent years, some high-quality documentaries have been created, but their output is limited. Relevant researches can promote the translation level of domestic documentaries, thus form the Chinese documentary market and promote the international competitiveness.
