1. 研究目的与意义
We are now living in a more open and more developed society than before due to social revolutions, which consists of numerous struggling histories of the poor. It reminds me of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, in which the exploited poor helps each other during their flee from famine, so I want to do a research on the awakening of working class from individual to community.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
Through the spiritual changes of Tom Joad and role reversal of Ma Joad, this essay aims to reveal the gradual awakeing of the poor in the Great Depression under the exploitation of wicked capitalists.

The previous research topics on The Grapes of Wrath at home and abroad is divided into several types: themes, structure and language features, human nature, individual and community, eco-criticism, ecofeminism, using of symbolism and influences of Bible.
4. 计划与进度安排
This is a story from 'I' to 'we'. This essay analyses the changes of Tom Joad from a loner to a hardy leader, reversal roleof Ma Joad as backbone of Joad family and the common gooal realized by the migrants, revealing the awakening of working class as a whole.
