1. 研究目的与意义

Since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy and its entry into WTO, China#8217;s national economy has been developing in a fast way, which, as a result, has led to the rapid growth of foreign trade. Signing business contracts is the most essential part in the process of foreign trade. Contracts, once signed, become legal documents and possess legal effect. However, a number of foreign economic disputes are, to a large extent, caused by improper translation of business contracts. Therefore, how to correctly understand and translate English business contracts into Chinese has always concerned the translators of foreign trade. Doing this research might be useful in providing more theoretical techniques for Chinese translators and helping them improve the skills in translating English business contracts.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will firstly give a brief introduction to English business contracts and talk about major problems involved in the translation of English business contracts. Then, the paper will focus on specific translation techniques of English business contracts. Finally, the paper will explain the importance of proper translation in English business contracts.

3. 国内外研究现状

There have been many researches on the study of E-C translation of business contracts made by both Chinese and foreign scholars and a great many achievements have been made concerning how to translate English business contracts. However, a number of these studies only focus on literary translation and pursue the artistic beauty of language, thus failing to be faithful to original texts and causing misunderstandings in foreign trade. Therefore, the author attempts to do a research on the translation techniques of English business contracts to give assistance to and help researchers increase the awareness of using precise and rigorous language in foreign trade.
