'Brideshead Revisted' represents a landmark in Evelyn Waugh#8216;sturning period, and has both a strong sense of autocracy, religious criticism, compared with his usual irony tone. This work with the background of World War I reflects the transformation of Britain from aristocratic society to democracy. As the name of the novel implies, it is equally full of nostalgia. No matter religion, belief, or the contradictory spirit world, it has a profound context with the hometown. Today, only British aristocrats are still sacred throughout the world, and their land is still full of ancient manor. Some new perspectives will be provided in analyzing the home complex in this novel.

Domestic and foreign research on 'Brideshead Revisted' mainly focuses on the analysis of the hero''s love and belief, religionism, and nostalgia.In his article 'Esacaping from One Unreal to Another: A Lacanian Reading of Brideshead Revisted', Hu Di analyzed the transformation from imaginaryromantic relationship between the protagonist Charles and Sebastian to the religious belief. According to her theory, this novel is not a tool for propagating values. The love and belief it expresses are bascially founded on spiritual imagination.Chen Li-jie''s 'Englishness and Imperialism In Pastoral Novels of Forster, Waugh, and Ishiguro' reveals the expansion of the empire and the culture alienation, allowing local writers to explore inwardly and tap Britain''s rural areas for the unique English character. The 'Brideshead Revisted' . as Chen argues, uses rural mansions as a supporting body to expose the contradiction between imperialism and Britishness.

Resarching: Collecting domestic and foreign literature review, including author interviews, audio data, as well as domestic and foreign commentators point of view. On the basis of this, this paper puts forward an argument, i,e., the role of ''''home complex'''' in 'Brideshead Revisted' and why it becomes a parcel of a nation identity.This article focuses on two main lines. The first is to analyze the protagonist''''s transition from devotion, alienation and disillusionment to the reconstruction of the ideal hometown. Second, it is to demonstrate the role of ''''homeland'''' in forming the social identity and ethnocentrism of the British society.
