The research of American Dream has always been a popular topic for decades. It#8217; s been demonstrated in a variety of forms, and literature is one of them. The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a typical work studying the initial stage of American Dream, it is a example of connecting literature to the real social formation. That#8217; s the reason for me picking the topic.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
The paper is an intact analysis of the relationships between American dream and F. Scott Fitzgerald'' s fiction-The Great Gatsby. The whole paper is divided into several parts in order to make phrases in multiple perspectives. The social, education, politic backgrounds at the author'' s time are taken into consideration in this paper, also, the appreciation of the fiction is not limited to itself, it'' s related to the experiences that the author had come through. It can be summarized that the American dream is not only an ideal thinking method that remains alive today, it can also be considered as a historic stage in American history because of its mainstream feature at that time and its influence to people today. Although the occurrence of American dream is this fiction of Fitzgerald seems to be way to dramatic, it''s the real enbodiment of the historic stage which is sarcastic that what seems to be fictitious is actually the truth. 1. 3. 国内外研究现状
The study of American Dream has always been a hit in the a lot of fields, because it changes over time and there are new information to be discovered in different historical stages. For example, people who are working on the topic focused more on the problems like social class differences while nowadays, the topic is usually considered related to the education and life styles of young teenagers in the United States. For Foreigners, to have a deep research of the topic can actually help us understand more about the social root and essence of American, and also be more susceptible for the national conditions of it.
4. 计划与进度安排
The paper will be mainly divided into the following parts, and after that with the contents overview. 1.Introduction F. Scott Fitzgerald was the chief spokesman of the jazz age, he was the coryphaeus of its orgiastic dance, the articulate symbol of its heady aspirations, and, after the spree was over, the disillusioned recorder of the reasons for the collapse of its wildly romantic hopes. He was more than a naturalistic novelist whose work mirrored the mad, foolish excesses and irresponsibilities of a 'lost generation;' he was also its conscience and its judge. 1 The Great Gatsby is a literature invention which combines the social elements of the days and the experiences the author had. 2.The Concept of American Dream The American Dream is among the United States#8217; most recognizable and revered symbols of our national heritage. Celebrated in popular culture, this statement of national purpose has been analyzed by commentators across the broad range of humanistic and scholarly disciplines, including American sociology.2 3.American Dream in The Great Gatsby Gatsby wasn#8217;t born in a wealthy family, his journey to success is very idealistic. In his deep mind, he was not comfortable with what he already had, he felt unpractical with his fortune, love, and social status.3 Also, he was not actually recognized by people from upper classes which made him more self-contemptuous inside, his failure was predicable and a consequent.4 4.The Reflection of Gatsby#8217; s American Dream in Real Life F. Scott Fitzgerald, as a member of #8220;The Lost Generation#8221;, experienced the evolution in social structure, economy, and ideology after The First World War. The character, Jay Gatsby, is a carrier of part of Fitzgerald formative experiences with more rendering of literature.5
